Nikolay Akimov is a senior research analyst in the Structural Engineering Department at Southwest Research Institute in San Antonio, Texas. Akimov has more than 15 years of experience developing data acquisition systems, including conventional and laser-based ultrasonic imaging for biomedical and nondestructive evaluation (NDE) applications. At SwRI, Akimov focuses on advancing data acquisition, signal processing and image reconstruction algorithms for both conventional and guided wave technologies. His recent work includes supporting the U.S. Air Force in developing advanced inspection solutions for detecting residual stress in cold-expanded holes, which involves creating and implementing custom algorithms and ultrasonic hardware tailored to the unique requirements of aerospace structures.
