David Piotrowski currently works as a Senior Principal Engineer in Delta Air Lines’ Technology Development group. His responsibilities include innovation of inspection technologies, oversight of Delta’s internal NDT materials and processes, developing and implementing novel inspections to solve in-service problems, and assisting in Damage Tolerance Analyses and Failure Investigations. Prior to his 24 years at Delta, David worked at Pratt & Whitney for 4 ½ years in a similar capacity.
He was part of teams which were named the 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2022 and 2023 FAA-A4A “Better Way Award” Winners for accomplishments in NDT. He was named to Delta’s prestigious “Chairman’s Club” in 2010.
He was named an SAE Fellow in 2024, and is a member of SAE’s Aerospace Council. Currently he serves as Chair of the SAE’s Aerospace Industry Steering Committee on Structural Health Monitoring (AISC-SHM). and Vice-Chair of SAE’s Steering Group of Integrated Vehicular Health Monitoring (IVHM). He is a member of SAE’s Committee K, HM-1 Committee (Health Management), E-32, and the Commercial Aircraft Composite Repair Committee (CACRC), plus A4A’s MPIG (Mtc Programs Industry Group). Previously he served 3 years as Chair of A4A’s NDT Network.
He has Bachelor of Materials Engineering and Master of Metallurgy degrees from Georgia Tech, as well as an MBA in Aviation from Embry-Riddle. He is ASNT (American Society for Nondestructive Testing) Level III certified in Penetrant, Ultrasonics, and Eddy Current.
